FAU Elected To University Research Consortium
BOCA RATON, FL (Feb. 12, 2003) -- The Oak Ridge Associated Universities Council of Sponsoring Institutions has elected Florida Atlantic University to membership in the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), a national consortium of research universities.
Dr. Larry Lemanski, FAUs vice president for Research and Graduate Studies, has been appointed the Universitys Councilor to ORAU.
It is truly an indication of FAUs continued growth in graduate and research programs to be part of ORAU, said Dr. Lemanski. Students and faculty will benefit from our membership through access to a multitude of opportunities for study and research, such as international scientific symposiums, or graduate student and faculty fellowships that are sponsored by ORAU."
Dr. Lemanski, who was elected to ORAU's national Board of Directors in 1999 while at Texas A&M University, will continue to serve in that capacity.
Established in 1946, ORAU is a consortium of research universities from around the country, with 86 doctoral-granting members and 8 associate members from 25 states. ORAU members produce one-third of the nation's Ph.D.s and conduct one-third of the nation's university research. Its mission is to leverage the scientific strength of major research institutions, to advance science and education by partnering with national laboratories, government agencies and private industry.
