FAU To Host Autism Lecture Series
BOCA RATON, FL (Feb. 13, 2003) -- Florida Atlantic University will host the fourth annual FAU Autism Lecture Series -- a series of free, public lectures presented by leading authorities in autism and supporting areas.
All lectures will take place at the FAU Boca Raton Campus, 777 Glades Road, at the University Center in the Majestic Palm room at 7 p.m.
The lecture series schedule is as follows:
Monday, Feb. 24 Transition to Adulthood: Planning and Support Attorney Craig Donoff, an internationally recognized expert in estate planning with special knowledge of estate planning for families of children with autism and related disabilities and Elizabeth Jennings an expert on sources of governmental funding for individuals with autism will lead the discussion.
Monday, March 24 The Alpine Learning Center: A Model for Intensive Intervention and Quality Transition for Children with Autism - Bridget Taylor, director of The Alpine Learning Group, is one of the world's foremost experts in intensive behavioral intervention for young children with autism. Her school has developed a unique model to transition intensively treated children to regular schools.
Monday, March 31 The League School of Greater Boston: Building Better Outcomes for Children, Adolescents and Young Adults with Autism and Aspergers Disorder - Herman T. Fishbein is the executive director for The League School, one of the oldest schools for individuals with autism in the country. This school continues to create new opportunities for persons with autism and related disabilities.
Monday, April 28 Understanding and Supporting Individuals with Asperger's Disorder - Jennifer Stella, Ph.D., University of Miami, is an expert on Aspergers Disorder, a widely misunderstood disorder on the autism spectrum. Stella will provide insights into the nature of this neurological disorder.
