FAU’s Broward Lifelong Learning Society Offers Fall Courses

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 4, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s Lifelong Learning Society is gearing up for the Fall 2006 semester with new course offerings for the Broward community beginning on Monday, October 16.  Taught by FAU professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, music, art, history, acting, ethics and movies.  The Broward course offerings range from American music to political science to Yiddish theater.  With a diverse content base, classes are tailored to suit a large cross-section of interests, broadening cultural exposure and awareness for mature community members.

“The Lifelong Learning classes are not those where students have the pressure to earn a grade. They are non-credit classes designed for older adults to stimulate intellectual curiosity,” said Sherre Clegg-Jolly, program coordinator for LLS.  “This program provides a unique opportunity for many people who are motivated to continue learning throughout their lifetime.”

More than two decades ago, the Lifelong Learning Society was founded in 1980.  The program’s goal has always been to enrich the lives of mature students by offering learning opportunities through non-credit, university-level courses.  Seniors enjoy their own curriculum, along with concerts and entertainment.  Originally established on the Boca Raton campus, the program was implemented in northern Palm Beach County in 1997.  In a few short years, enrollment has grown from 120 to more than 17,000 students.  There are more than 60 courses available at various locations throughout Palm Beach and now Broward County.

Course registration is available now for the Fall 2006 session.  For more information, contact Sherre Clegg-Jolly at 954-762-5187 or sjolly@fau.edu.  Additional program information is available at the official Lifelong Learning website located at  www.lll.fau.edu.
