University MRI Continues Commitment with FAU Football

Company was an Original FAU Football Founder

BOCA RATON, FL (August 2, 2006) – The Florida Atlantic University Athletics Department is pleased to announce that the University MRI & Diagnostic Imaging Centers in Boca Raton, Fla., have made a second $50,000 commitment to the FAU Football program.

“We would like to thank University MRI again for their participation in the Founder’s program, and we are very excited that they have decided to renew their commitment to the FAU Football program,” said Terry Mohajir, associate athletics director for development.   “Their continued support will help enhance our program as we move forward.”

The FAU athletics department is growing at a rapid pace.   FAU was recently ranked 79th in the nation by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).   In conjunction with USA Today and the United States Sports Academy, NACDA recognized FAU for its Division I athletic programs and accomplishments.   This national ranking places FAU in the top 24 percent of 326 NCAA Division I universities.   FAU was the only school in either the Sun Belt or Atlantic Sun conferences that placed in the top 100 and was the 4th highest ranked program in the state of Florida, finishing behind the University of Florida, Florida State University and the University of Miami.   The FAU women’s basketball team was listed among the nation’s top-10 percent in Academic Performance Rating (APR), while an average of 136 student athletes earned a 3.0 or above GPA each semester. There are also nearly 40 former Owls playing professional sports.

The FAU athletics program is able to excel, thanks, in great part, to its community partnerships – partnerships that provide scholarships, operating dollars or services.   FAU’s relationship with University MRI & Diagnostic Imaging Centers is one such partnership.   Their renewed commitment to FAU consists of a cash donation and the provision of services for the care and prevention of injuries to FAU athletes.

“Based on our great respect for Coach Howard Schnellenberger and the Florida Atlantic University Athletics Department, we are happy to continue as a Football Founder and contributor,” said Dr. Fred Steinberg, University MRI’s medical director.   “Community participation has always been a priority with University MRI & Diagnostic Imaging Centers. Being part of a program that encourages its athletes to maintain academic performance is very fulfilling.”

University MRI & Diagnostic Imaging provides the highest level of medical imaging services using leading technology in a comfortable outpatient setting.  The first center, that  opened its doors on FAU’s Boca Raton campus and remains in the FAU Research Park, offers MRI, CT, ultrasound, positron emission tomography (PET), nuclear medicine, digital x-rays, fluoroscopy and bone density testing.

Fred L. Steinberg, M.D., board certified in diagnostic radiology and American trained, specializes in MRI of the brain and spine, Magnetic Resonance Angiography, Musculosketal, Cardiovascular and Body MRI.   A research professor at Florida Atlantic University for The Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences, Steinberg is involved in various MRI related research, including Functional Brain MRI and Cardiac MRI studies.
