FAU Names Kurt R. Moore Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
BOCA RATON, FL (July 17, 2006) – The Division of University Advancement and the Division of Research at Florida Atlantic University have named Kurt R. Moore director of corporate and foundation relations. Serving as a member of both divisions, Moore arrives at FAU with an extensive and multifaceted background that includes 20 years experience in institutional advancement, 15 years in the field of corporate and foundation relations, planned giving and major gifts, and an additional five years in grant, contract and research administration.
“I am pleased to be coming to FAU at an exciting time in its growth,” said Moore. “My goal is to create an integrated corporate and foundation relations program – one that will showcase FAU’s academic offerings and strengths as a research institution with local, regional and national prestige. The time is right for us to build partnerships with companies and cultivate funding opportunities with outside foundations.”
For the past five years, Moore has served as director of corporate research and development for Florida State University’s office of the vice president for research. In that role, he developed an industrial relations program to advance the university’s research mission. This program emphasized external marketing, faculty grant and contract support and technology commercialization. In addition, Moore was a visiting instructor at FSU where he developed and taught a graduate level course in “Fundraising and Fund Development.” From 1995 to 2001, Moore worked for the Florida State University Foundation where he founded, centralized and directed FSU’s corporate and foundation relations initiatives, and coordinated corporate and foundation fund-raising efforts among 16 colleges.
From 1993 to 1995, Moore directed planned giving and major gifts at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla. He launched the university’s planned giving program and developed a prospect tracking system, an annuities program and giving society. Prior to that position, Moore served as the director of planned giving and major gifts for Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital Foundation in Syracuse, N.Y. In this role, he secured planned and major gifts for the 612-bed hospital. From 1987 to 1991, Moore worked in major gifts and corporate relations at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
Moore’s professional roots are in academia, specifically in the field of archaeology. He directed a two-year field study of prehistoric sites in western Illinois, and was a principal investigator and project supervisor for archaeological research sites in the United States and Micronesia. Moore holds two undergraduate degrees, one in anthropology and one in art history, from the University of Illinois in Urbana, Ill. He earned a master’s degree in anthropology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., where he completed some Ph.D. coursework as well. Moore is certified as a fund-raising executive by the Association for Fundraising Professionals/CFRE International. In 2001, he received a certificate from Florida State University in financial planning.
Moore is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the National Council of University Research Administrators, the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and the Florida Anthropological Society. Moore continues to serve as a fundraising consultant and as a seasoned lecturer.
“We are delighted that Kurt Moore has joined the university,” said Dr. Lawrence Davenport, executive vice president of University Advancement and executive director of the FAU Foundation. “His impeccable background and wealth of experience in the field will surely enhance FAU’s position as one of the country’s fastest growing universities and research institutions.”
“Research is a top priority for Florida Atlantic University,” said Dr. Larry F. Lemanski, vice president for research at FAU. “We are extremely pleased to have Mr. Moore as a member of our division and look forward to working with him to bring in vital funding for our cutting-edge research, new programs and recruitment of new scientists and faculty.”
