Dr. Harold Wanless is professor and chair of the department of geological sciences at the University of Miami. He and his students have been studying the dynamics and evolution of coastal and shallow marine environments of South Florida and the Bahamas since the mid 1960s. The study focuses on the influence of sea level and hurricanes and on the dynamics of biotic wetland and marine communities. He is now applying the research to projecting future changes in response to global warming.
