FAU Presents Peaceful Mind/Peaceful World Lecture Series
BOCA RATON, FL (February 17, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents “ The Peaceful Mind/Peaceful World Lecture Series” to be held in Boca Raton. During the series, internationally renowned scholars will explore the connections between the internal and external peace process, addressing timely topics such as healthcare, stress management and spirituality in the 21 st century. The presenters will combine their research and expertise with the teachings of Eknath Easwaran, author of “Strength in the Storm: Creating Calm in Difficult Times” and “Words to Live By.” They will explore how inner peace manifests itself in personal relationships, community/group interactions, public policy and world politics.
The first event, to be held on Sunday, March 26 at 4 p.m., will be a book signing with Carol Flinders, author of “Enduring Lives – Living Portraits of Women of Faith in Action.” This event will be held at the Barnes and Noble Bookseller at 1400 Glades Road in Boca Raton and is free and open to the public. At the second event, on Monday, March 27 at 4 p.m., Flinders will present the lecture “From Inside Out: A Culture of Peace and the Women Who are Building It.” The event, which will be held in the Majestic Palm Room in the University Center on FAU’s Boca Raton campus at 777 Glades Road, is free and open to the public. For information, call 561-297-3158.
On Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., there will be a lecture, lunch and workshop titled “Inner Peace: Healing and Wellness,” with keynote speaker: Jill Bormann, Ph.D., R.N., of the VA San Diego Healthcare System. Her research on methods for relieving stress has been supported by the National Center for the Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health. The event will be held in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing Building on FAU’s Boca Raton Campus. The cost is $5 at the door, which includes the lecture, lunch, workshop and a copy of “Strength in the Storm: Creating Calm in Difficult Times.” Space is limited and advance registration is recommended by calling 561-297-3158. Participants will be offered the opportunity for a follow-up workshop on April 22 to deepen their understanding of “peaceful mind” techniques.
These events are sponsored by FAU’s Peace Studies Program, the Women’s Studies Program, and the Ph.D. Program in Comparative Studies in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters; and the Center for Intentional Health of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing.
