As this new academic year gains momentum, it's easy to see that we're moving closer and closer to our goal of making Florida Atlantic University one of America's premier institutions of higher education. Evidence of success is all around us: in the steady increase of both the quantity and quality of sponsored research being carried out by our faculty and students; in the addition of sophisticated new facilities to our campuses; in our effective partnerships with such major players as the Scripps Research Institute, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute; and in our progress on all fronts, from increased undergraduate and graduate enrollment to expansion of the alumni base. Virtually all of our service area's major newspapers referred to FAU's dramatic growth in the stories they ran at the beginning of the Fall Semester. There can be no doubt that we're making headway in the process of forging a new FAU in the 21st century. This is a team effort, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every member of the faculty, staff and student body for their important individual contributions to the common cause. Working together, we'll take Florida Atlantic University to even greater heights in the year ahead.
