The Bachelor of Architecture degree prepares students for the profession and practice of architecture. By developing an understanding of the design process as it embraces the interrelated and interdependent processes of construction, planning, and governance, the students will have broadened capacity and readiness to recognize their societal responsibilities in improving the quality of our physical environment, and with it, our quality of life.

Step 1: Complete The Application
You can apply using the online application form on our secure server.
You must have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN) in order to submit the FAU Online Undergraduate Application. If you do not have a SSN, please contact the academic advisor listed below.
If you do not have a United States Social Security number, you will need to enter in all zeros (000-00-0000) for the social security number. The Admissions Office will provide you with a valid student number for the processing of your application.
The University Application and all supporting materials and test scores must be received by the Office of Admissions no later than the last Friday in January.
Students who are not planning to submit a portfolio but transfer into FAU follow the University’s application deadlines. Please check the catalog for deadlines.
Step 2: Send Official Transcripts
Request official transcripts to be sent to Florida Atlantic University from all high schools you have attended, OR from all colleges or universities you have attended and from your secondary school(s). We request that your current name and Social Security Number be added to your record if necessary. Once received, all transcripts and test scores become the sole property of the university.
- If you are a beginning freshman or transfer applicant with less than 60 semester hours of transferable academic credit, have your high school forward your official secondary school record to FAU.
- If you have attempted any education or training either as dual enrollment in high school or after high school, ask each institution to forward an official transcript of your academic record. Official transcripts must be mailed directly from the institution or forwarded electronically. Only Florida public high schools, community colleges and state universities can have your transcripts and test scores sent electronically.
- If you have completed high school by GED, you must provide an official copy of test scores (in addition to your partial high school transcript).
- Transfer students who completed 2 years of the same foreign language in high school must submit official high school transcripts in order to fulfill the foreign language entry requirement.

Step 3: Submit Test Results
High School Seniors:
We require either SAT or ACT standardized test scores. To have SAT scores sent to Florida Atlantic University contact College Board at www.collegeboard.com or at (609) 771-7600. FAU's SAT school code number is 5229. To have ACT scores sent contact American College Testing Program at www.act.org or (319) 337-1313. FAU's ACT school code number is 0729.
If you have more than 60 credits, all applicants must present a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on all attempted college work and applicants must be in good academic standing at their last attended institution.
Fewer than 60 credits, all applicants must also meet all freshman admissions requirements as stated in the freshman admissions section.
Step 4: Enclose Application Fee
The application fee of $30 must be in U.S. currency. Fee can be paid by credit card, check, or money order. Check or money order should be made payable to Florida Atlantic University and must be drawn on a U.S. bank; U.S. postal money orders, international money orders or U.S. traveler's checks are acceptable. Please print off the last page of the application (FAU Undergraduate Admission Application Post Checklist) or on a separate piece of paper include your name, your social security number and session id number, and include the $30.00 application fee (if required, and not done by credit card).

Step 5: Submit SoA Application
All students interested in applying to the Upper Division sequence of the School of Architecture are required to submit an application to the program.
The School of Architecture Application must be submitted along with the portfolio. A copy of your unofficial transcripts from all secondary schools attended are required to be submitted with the application. International and Out of State students are also required to submit course descriptions of all Architecture courses taken at their previous institutions. Applications will not be accepted without the portfolio. Please do not send the application to Undergraduate Admissions. Step 6: Portfolio Submission
Students applying for admission to the School of Architecture must submit a portfolio of work. The portfolio deadline is the last Friday in February at 10 am, Room 807 of the Higher Education Complex, 111 E Las Olas Blvd, in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Portfolios submitted after this deadline will not be accepted. A portfolio should be a well-crafted presentation of an individual’s work. The representation must include academic work, whether it is from designs 1 through 4 for admission to Junior phase or designs 1 through 8 for admissions to Thesis phase. Failure to include academic work disqualifies the applicant for admissions to the School of Architecture. Portfolios shall be submitted in letter-size (8 1/2” by 11”) format. No original documents, slides, or rolled drawings will be accepted. Applications to the university will be due by last Friday in January for the fall semester.
Submitted portfolios must include a cover page with the student’s name, Z number, address, telephone number(s), email address, and design sequence applying for. Portfolios may include up to 24 pages of representative work. Included projects must indicate a sequential process of development with the greatest emphasis on recent works. Examples of past student work are most important, but other work – completed privately or in a professional setting – may also be included. All projects should include the following text information: a title, a description of the project, the course for which the work was completed (where applicable), the date completed, and, for group work or professional work, the individual’s role in the project.
Architectural projects should be illustrated with clear reproductions and include a range of architectural representation: plans, elevations, sections, perspective drawings, sketches, models, and other three-dimensional representations. The architecture faculty reviews the contents of a portfolio for admission and placement purposes. The projects submitted will be evaluated for equivalent learning. Student placement in the Design Studio sequence is based upon the illustrated level of skill and understanding as indicated in the presented work.
Step 7: Required Writing Exercise
Applicants to the School of Architecture are required to participate in a writing exercise. The writing sample requirement will be fulfilled by hand writing a short essay on a subject to be announced. Applicants will be given ample time to respond to the subject and complete the task. Legibility, grammar, spelling and concise thought are all important aspects of your writing ability and should be given equal effort. Writing samples are evaluated to determine the student’s readiness for upper division writing and analysis. The writing sample will be completed in person at the Higher Education Complex, Room 807 on the day of the portfolio submission deadline. Students who are out of state, in foreign countries, or resides non-locally, please contact Versel Reid to make arrangements to take the writing exercise.
