Description: Listings primarily announce full-time academic job openings in postsecondary departments of English and foreign languages. The job openings range in rank from instructor to full professor and include faculty positions, administrative posts, vacancies abroad, and some opportunities for nonacademic employment. About two-thirds are openings at the rank of assistant professor. A list of departments reporting no vacancies is also provided, so that job candidates know where it would definitely not be profitable to direct letters of application. There is a fee for individual membership but graduate students and faculty members in departments that are members of Association of Departments of English (www.ade.org) and Association of Departments of Foreign Languages (www.adfl.org) can search for free as part of the departmental membership.

Description: According to their website, this organization "endeavors to expand the definition of American literature through the study and teaching of Latino American, Native American, African American, Asian and Pacific American, and ethnically specific Euro-American literary works, their authors, and their cultural contexts." They hold an annual conference as well as distribute a journal. The website also has a syllabus database that is accessible without being a member.

Description: Has job postings for individuals wishing to teach at two year colleges, colleges & universities, and K-12. It also has positions which relate to the English profession. You do not need to be a member to access these postings. This website has 4 subgroups: NCTE which serves faculty teaching English studies in college; CCCC which serves faculty focused on college composition and communication; TYCA which focuses on faculty who teach at 2 year institutions, community colleges and lower division courses; and CEE which focuses on the preparation of teachers in language arts & literacy. The organization also holds conferences and has resources on its website.

Description: Now in its sixteenth year, the WIIS Summer Symposium is an intensive six-day program in Washington, DC comprising seminars on security issues with leading policy experts, career development workshops, a crisis simulation, student research presentations, and unique networking opportunities. The 2005 Symposium on "International Security Challenges: Forging Global Responses" will be held June 9 - 14, 2005 at Georgetown University and will focus on crucial security challenges, including proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; regional conflicts in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia; terrorism; human trafficking; and infectious diseases; and governmental and non-governmental strategies to effectively address these challenges. Applications for the 2005 Symposium must be received by March 4, 2005. WIIS covers the costs for accommodation, most meals, and the program itself. There is a registration fee of $125 for accepted participants, and limited fellowships are available for travel.

Description: The National Academies administers Postdoctoral and Senior Research Awards through its Associateship Programs, part of the Policy and Global Affairs Division. The Research Associateship Programs are sponsored by federal laboratories and NASA Research Centers at over one hundred locations in the United States and overseas. Research Associateship awards are given for the purpose of conducting research at a specific laboratory chosen by the applicant; are made to doctoral level scientists and engineers who can apply their special knowledge and research talents to research areas that are of interest to them and to the host laboratories and centers; are made to Postdoctoral Associates (within 5 years of the doctorate) and Senior Associates (normally 5 years or more beyond the doctorate). 2005 Deadlines: Feb 1st, May 1st, August 1st & November 1st
