Degree Requirements
Admission Requirements    |   Degree Requirements   |   Courses   |   How To Apply

The program for the Social Work major consists of 39 credits of required social work courses, including Field Education, and 21 credits of electives for a total of 60 credits. Introductory Statistics (STA 2023 or its equivalent) must be included in the 120-credit minimum degree program.* Ample opportunity exists for each student to select those courses that support their field of practice interests. A minimum grade of “C” is required for all SOW-prefixed courses. If a grade below “C” (such as “C-”) is earned in a SOW-prefixed course, the course will not count toward any portion of the minimum 120-credit degree program.

To be eligible for Field Education, a student must have completed all other degree requirements, have a 2.5 GPA at FAU, have a “C” or better in all required social work courses, and have no “I” (incomplete) grades. Students must apply for Field Education through the Director of Field Education Internships the semester prior to fulfilling the requirement. See the Social Work Student Manual for complete eligibility criteria. This involves a minimum of 30 hours per week of generalist practice under the direction of an agency-based supervisor and a three-hour per week integrative seminar.
