January 19 Wednesday Lecture Series: John O'Connor
This event sponsored by Florida Atlantic Planning Society and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University
As cities try to redefine themselves in the twenty-first century, specific urban design and architectural standards will increasingly become the norm. In many cases, these standards will literally become part a crucial element of the city’s identity.
John O'Connor, a graduate of the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and publisher of HOME Miami and HOME Fort Lauderdale Magazines, will discuss architectural and urban design trends in South Florida.
He also will focus on the 1950's and 60's architecture of Fort Lauderdale and its role in the development of Fort Lauderdale as a 20th century resort destination.
This timely presentation emphasizes the interconnectedness of urban planning, architecture and public policy. It promises to be a visual treat as well as Mr. O’Connor will employ his extensive collection of slides depicting local architecture for his lecture.
