CCJ 6056 Criminology
Provides an overview of the nature and scope of delinquency and crime problems. Considers problems of assessment of measurement of delinquency and crime. Surveys available theoretical formulation concerning criminal and delinquent behavior. Course also considers the nature of scientific thought and practice in this field, analyzes crime, delinquency, and victimization within the demographic and ecological systems of society.

CCJ 6142 Restorative Community Justice
In-depth familiarization with contrasts among traditional justice system approaches and emerging policy, theory, and research in restorative and community justice. Explores the vision associated with this unconventional paradigm, along with a range of issues related to its operational implementation.
CCJ 6196 Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution
Examines the application of nontraditional conflict management theories and dispute resolution techniques to the justice system. Within the framework of restorative justice, the nature, substance, applicability, and effectiveness of such strategies are reviewed and assessed.
CCJ 6456 Foundations of Justice Policy and Management
Advanced overview of courts, corrections, police, and juvenile justice policy and management issues. Examination of interagency relationships among these subsystems as well as planning and coordinating issues.
CCJ 6485 Public Policy Models
Application of analytic techniques to law enforcement, court, correctional, and juvenile justice policy-making. Focuses on the formulation, implementation, analysis, and evaluation of justice system policy, including the social, political, and economic environments within which policy is designed and implemented.
CCJ 6489 Issues in Community Justice
Critical examination of community justice as a movement in which police, courts, and corrections build new partnerships and justice delivery systems in cooperation with local neighborhoods. Explores issues related to transforming the location, access, and intervention practices of justice agencies in accordance with this emerging paradigm.
CCJ 6675 Victims and the Justice Process
Advanced overview of the victims ’ rights movement, victimization theory, and the justice system's response to victimization, as well as contemporary practices related to victim participation in the justice process. Explores initiatives for enhancing awareness of, sensitivity to, and integration of victims in the justice system.
CCJ 6676 Women and Crime
Examination of how gender ,interacting with race and class, structures experiences within the justice system. Explores the relationship between gender and victimization, patterns of offending, reactions of justice officials, and experiences of female professionals working in the justice system.
CCJ 6705 Quantitative Research and Evaluation in Justice Systems
Prerequisite: PAD 6701
Study of numerically based, objective research techniques designed to provide quantitative indicators of the implementation progress, outcome results, or long-term impact of various criminal justice endeavors. Focuses on methodological procedures for conducting such investigations, as well as both advantages and shortcomings of quantitative research methods.
CCJ 6704 Research Methods
Course provides students with the fundamental theories and practice of criminological and criminal justice research. It examines theory and research, the nature of causation, the structure of inquiry, including research design, conceptualization, measurement and sampling; modes of observation, including experiments, survey research, and evaluation research; and elementary application of qualitative and quantitative analysis.
CCJ 6709 Qualitative Research and Evaluation in Justice Systems
Prerequisite: PAD 6701
Application of various non-quantitative approaches in case study research within criminal justice settings. Focuses on understanding the types of justice-related questions that call for qualitative research designs; developing a working familiarity with the use of field method techniques to produce valid and reliable results; and critically evaluating research using ethnographic and other qualitative approaches.
CCJ 6905 Directed Independent Study
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor
Reading , research, and in-depth analysis of a selected topic under faculty direction. Students are responsible for identifying a topic of study and securing the approval of an appropriate faculty member before registration.
CCJ 6902 Foundations Reading in the Criminal Justice Process
The course provides students with perusal of significant/classic scholarship law enforcement, judicial process, and adult and juvenile corrections. The research literature will cover classic system reforms and experiments as well as critical analysis of contemporary policies and practices. Students will become familiar with the use of library resources in obtaining assigned readings. Students will produce a traditional term paper.
CCJ 6931 Seminar in Justice Policy Reform
Comprehensive examination of the history and context of justice system reform. Addresses the impact of social movements, organizational and political forces, and emerging new directions for system transformation. Considers strategic approaches to implementation and the importance of program and policy evaluation. To be taken in the student ’s last semester.

In-depth exploration, analysis, and assessment of contemporary topics of special concern to the administration of criminal/juvenile justice systems.

CJC 6021 Corrections
Analysis of policy, theory, and research pertinent to the administration and management of jails, prisons, and community corrections. Reviews historical development of corrections policy and analysis of reform efforts.
CJE 6426 Police and the Community
A social psychological examination of current issues in municipal law enforcement, including such topics as the informal exercise of police authority, police role conflict, the relative significance of law enforcement and social service, and the dynamics of police subculture.
CJJ 6046 Juvenile Justice
Analysis of policy, theory, and research pertinent to the management of juvenile justice systems and youth service agencies. Focuses on policy issues and responses to at-risk youth, spanning prevention, diversion, and intervention within a multi-layered, intergovernmental context.
CJL 6520 Judicial Process
Analysis of theory, research, and policy relevant to the process of court decision-making, the roles of key court actors, the nature of the court in the context of public administration, and the prospects for court modernization and reform.
PAD 6701 Applied Methods I
Prerequisite:Undergraduate statistics or permission of the instructor.
A study of the statistical methods, techniques, and procedures used in the analysis of public sector data. Emphasis on computer analysis.
