Admission Requirements    |   Degree Requirements   |   Courses   |   How To Apply

Eligibility for admission to the Master of Science with major in Criminal Justice program includes the following: a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, a grade point average (GPA)of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 credits of undergraduate course work, or a total score of 1000 or higher on the combined verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE),taken within the last five years. All applicants must submit GRE scores (regardless of their undergraduate GPA),along with a letter of intent describing their interest in this program, career plans, academic capabilities, etc. Highly promising applicants who do not precisely meet the above GPA or GRE standards can petition the College Graduate Admissions Committee for a review of their file, including such evidence as undergraduate grade trends; professional work experience; performance in preparatory undergraduate criminal justice courses; subsequent scores after retaking the GRE; and related indicators of graduate-level capability.

An international student is required to achieve a minimum score of 550 (CBT-213) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

If an applicant presents either a GPA of 3.0 or higher or a GRE score of 1000 or higher, but not both, that applicant will be considered by the College Graduate Admissions Committee. The committee will review all evidence of high promise, including, but not limited to:

  • Trend of undergraduate grades.
  • Type of undergraduate degree program.
  • Mature work experience.
  • Completion of up to three graduate courses with a "B" or higher in each.
  • Scores upon retaking the Graduate Record Examination.
  • Personal Statement.

In strong cases, the applicant may be recommended for conditional admittance

The Admissions process is fully described in the Graduate Catalog, which is updated yearly. The process cannot proceed without the applicant submitting a formal application to the University, arranging for transcripts from all institutions attended since high school, to be sent to the Admissions Office and completing the Student Immunization Form.
