Program Overview

The School of Public Administration at Florida Atlantic University offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree. The MPA is a professional degree for practitioners in the public sector or for those who plan to work solving public problems. The MPA consists of 42 semester hours, including 30 hours (10 courses) of core curriculum and 12 hours (4 courses) of elective courses. The FAU MPA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA).

Applying for the Master of Public Administration degree consists of 5 simple steps:

  1. Completing the Graduate Application
  2. Sending Your Official Transcripts
  3. Submitting Your Test Scores
  4. Enclosing Application Fee
  5. Maintaing Contact With Us

If you are considering applying to FAU, we recommend reading through each of the steps, and the detailed explanation of each step before starting with the application process.

Once you have been accepted for admission into the university, it is strongly recommeded that you contact your academic advisor and faculty advisor to assist you before you register for classes. Contacts for this program can be found below.

Step 1: Complete the Application

You can submit your application online.

Note: All materials in the next few steps must be submitted together with your application.

Step 2: Send Your Transcripts

Request that two official transcripts from the Registrar of each college or university you have attended (except FAU) be sent directly to you.

When you receive the transcripts, do not open the envelopes, but include them unopened in your materials packet. If FAU was your last school attended and you were a degree-seeking student, it is likely that your transcripts are on record.You will be notified if they are not.

Step 3: Submit Test Results

Each applicant should have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 hours of work attempted at the undergraduate level or a combined score of 1000 or higher on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (only GRE scores from within the last 5 years will be accepted). All applicants must submit their scores on the GRE, regardless of GPA.

An international student is required to achieve a minimum score of 550 (CBT-213) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Applicants are encouraged to submit a 500-word writing sample, stating why obtaining the MPA is important to their career objectives.

Step 4: Enclose Application Fee

The application fee of $30 must be in U.S. currency. Fee can be paid by credit card, check, or money order. Check or money order should be made payable to Florida Atlantic University and must be drawn on a U.S. bank; U.S. postal money orders, international money orders or U.S. traveler's checks are acceptable.
