The process of choosing a major and/or career often begins with self-assessment. The FAU Career Center offers several different career assessments that can help clarify your work values, interests, and skills, while providing important information to enhance personal growth and self-understanding. The career assessments are for currently enrolled degree-seeking students.
The online assessments require that you first meet with a career consultant (which can be during same-day career advising hours, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Boca Raton campus, Tuesday - Thursday 1 - 4 p.m. Davie campus and Wednesdays 2:30-4:30 p.m. Jupiter campus). Your career consultant will help determine which assessment(s) are most relevant to your specific situation. If it is determined that you will be taking the Strong Interest Inventory, or any assessments, your career consultant will give you log in instructions, and you will be scheduled for a second follow-up appointment. During the second appointment a career counselor will interpret the assessment results and develop a Career Action Plan (CAP) to assist you in achieving your goal(s).
The assessments are only a tool in the overall career development process. They will not provide students with the "magical" answer. No single assessment can tell a student "what they should be." Assessments aid students in exploring new options, solidifying current options, and/or acquiring self-knowledge.
If your career counselor recommends taking a directive assessment(s), please note that these assessments come with a $15 fee per assessment. Payment must be received prior to scheduling a follow-up appointment.
|Strong Interest Inventory (SII)||The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) is a 291-item inventory that matches your interests with the interests of people who have been in career fields at least three years and are satisfied with their work. The SII is taken online, and the results are provided during an individual appointment with a career advisor ($15)|
Major KnOWLedge is an online resource developed by career counselors at the FAU Career Center that helps FAU students identify personal interests and their relationships to FAU majors as well as occupations.
Fees must be paid online (credit cards/web check). Please bring a copy of your receipt to your appointment. The Career Center will automatically be notified and will send you follow-up instructions via e-mail. If you don't receive follow-up instructions within 2 business days, please call the Career Center at 561-297-3533.
