MASSAGE THERAPY The Department of Campus Recreation is proud to offer reasonably priced massage services for the FAU community. The purpose of massage is twofold “relaxation” and/or “therapeutic” with the goal being to facilitate the body’s innate ability to return to a state of balance to function at optimal and peak performance. Benefits of massage include:
As an “alternative” to Western medicine, therapeutic massage and bodywork is receiving greater recognition and respect from the medical field as scientific research has proven its positive contribution to the healing process. Types of Massages Available Swedish Massage : Uses light pressure to promote relaxation and relieves stress through the use of broad, long, flowing strokes that increase circulation and flush out toxins in the body. Sports Massage Uses light and firm pressure primarily for injury prevention and rehabilitation of muscles. Incorporates traditional massage and stretching to relax and strengthen muscles while releasing areas of restriction and improving range of motion. There are 3 types of sports massage: pre-event, inter-event, and post-event. Strokes used include compression, lengthening, quick/stimulating movements, as well as relaxation moves. Helps with cramp relief. Deep Tissue Massage : Uses firm pressure for muscles that are deeper than those that lay close to the skins surface. A firmer pressure and a slower stroke is needed to access and treat these muscles properly. For prices of each massage, click here. For policies, click here.
