What are Departmental Copy Cards?
Departmental Copy Cards are prepaid debit cards available exclusively to University Departments to pay for copies and copy work.
Departmental Copy Cards are debit cards which operate on an off-line system. This means that the money is actually encoded directly on the card. If the card is either lost or stolen we are unable to lock out the card. It is important to keep your cards in a secure environment to avoid loss or theft.
How much money can a Departmental Copy Card be encoded with?
Departmental Copy Cards can have a maximum balance of $500.00. Business Services encourages you to limit the balance you have on any one card to minimize possible losses.
Where can a department use a copy card?
Copy Cards can be used to pay for copies at all copy machines equipped with Debitek card readers. They are located throughout campus. Copy Cards are also a means of payment accepted at the Toshiba Copy Center, computer lab print stations and the microfiche printer in the Library.
Copy Cards will not work in vending machines or any other location designed for non-departmental work. If you need to make personal copies or purchases you can use your personal OWL CARD.
How does a copy card work?
When money is put on the card, the dollar amount is actually encoded on the off-line stripe on the back of the card. When the card is put in either a copy machine card reader or a debit point of sale machine the current balance on the card is displayed. After a copy or purchase is made the new balance is re-written on the stripe of the card.
How do we know how much money we have left on a card?
When you put a Departmental Copy Card in a copier reader or given to the Campus Copy service representative at the Debit Point of Sale machine, the card's current balance is displayed on the device.
When the card runs out of money, do we throw it out?
NO. Copy Cards are re-chargeable. When the balance is low or runs out you simply have more money put on the card.
Where do we get copy cards?
You may purchase a copy card by filling out an Online Request Form and bringing it to The OWL CARD Center located in the University Center, Room 129. If your office is on another campus you may fax your request and the card will be sent to you via interoffice mail. The OWL CARD Center can be reached at x7-2700 or fax 7-3030.
