Socially, morally and ethically conscious individuals and corporations are voluntarily investing in buildings which reduce their carbon foot print, thus saving precious natural resource and assuring a healthy prosperous future for us and generations to come.
On a macro level, by joining the United States Green Building Council (as a corporate member); Florida Atlantic University is supporting the movement. The USGBC is the agency which evaluates rates and awards the Green Building Designation.
On a micro level the Florida Atlantic University has mandated that all new building construction set a target of a Silver Certification.
On the Davie Campus in Broward a building project targeted for a Silver Certification is currently under design.
Located on the newly acquired West Campus; the project is approximately 77,000 square feet and four stories tall; with a total project cost of $39,270,000. A portion of this building will be shared with the University of Florida.
The building will contain laboratory space, classrooms, faculty offices and related support spaces. As individuals associated with the University, we can all be proud of the part we are playing to improve the quality of life on this planet.
