Anthony Abbate It’s a new academic year at Florida Atlantic University and FAU Broward welcomes back our faculty and students at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, the College of Education, the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, the College of Business, the College for Design and Social Inquiry, the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, and the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

The Sea Tech facility celebrates 15 years at Dania Beach as a team of students, from the Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering, heads to Singapore this fall to compete in the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Robot-X Maritime Challenge.  The Florida Atlantic University team is one of three representing the United States!

The Davie Campus welcomes the Center for Environmental Studies to our state-of-the-art Davie West facility.  The CES, established in 1994 as a research center to facilitate and coordinate environmental research and education in the water dominated ecosystems of Florida, is strategically positioned with our outstanding faculty in the environmental and biological sciences, the United States Geological Survey, and our MetroLAB downtown to continue to lead efforts to address urban and environmental issues and the effects of climate change in coastal regions.

Fort Lauderdale Campus welcomes the incoming class of architecture students and the fall presentation of students who were awarded an Oscar Vagi Fellowship for international travel study.  Our downtown campus is also the location of the Executive Masters in Accounting programs in the College of Business, the Small Business Development Center, the Florida Public Archaeology Network, and the Institute for Design and Construction.  Please join us at the annual higher education block party on October 16th, and see the many faces of our students, faculty, and staff at the installation of Inside-Out, a global art project that transforms messages of personal identity, at the FAU-BC Higher Education Complex.

FAU Broward congratulates John Lowe, R.N., Ph.D. on the award of a $2.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, to conduct and evaluate an after school substance abuse prevention intervention among Native American tribal youth.

We also congratulate Keith van de Riet, Ph.D. of the School of Architecture on receiving the “World Class Faculty Award” by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance.  He joins a roster of accomplished FAU Broward faculty to receive this prestigious recognition by industry and business leaders, including Esiobu Nwadito, Ph.D. (2013) of the Department of Biological Sciences,  Pierre Philippe Beaujean, Ph.D. (2012) of the Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering.

I look forward to seeing you on our campuses this year!  Go Owls!
