This August 2017, aftermonths of construction on the first floor the FAU Davie Liberal Arts building, the FAU Broward One Stop Shop will open its doors. Finally, students needing admissions, financial aid and registration services can get all of those services at one location, instead of going to three different offices.
The One Stop Shop concept was developed by FAU Associate Provost Anthony Abbate and Miguel Hernandez, Director of Academic & Enrollment Management Services with four goals in mind: Efficiency. Convenience. No lines. Comfort. "The goal is to improve the experience for students seeking those services and make optimal use of their time by keeping services close and available," said Abbate of the 12-person staffed One Stop Shop.
The process is simple: A student arrives at the One Stop Shop service area and lounge, signs in on an iPad with their Z number and their name. The student selects what service they need and the reason for needing that service. As the student sits in the lounge, they can enjoy a freshly brewed cup of gourmet coffee as they wait to see their name appear on a screen to alert them that it is their turn to be attended.
After hours, the One Stop Shop area can be used as a common study area equipped with Wi-Fi and electric outlets for laptops and phones. It can also be used as a meeting or conference space for student organizations. "The hope is that when the One Stop Shop is off and running we can expand this model throughout the entire Liberal Arts building with Career Services, Student Accessibility Services, and other departments," Hernandez said.
