SEWSA 2015 Student Caucus Call for Papers

Gender in Self and Society: Exploitation and Self-Awareness

(Since the CFP deadline has passed, the Student Caucus is no longer accepting submissions.)

The 2015 Southeastern Women’s Studies Association conference will be hosted by The Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Florida Atlantic University and will be held at the Wyndham Hotel in Boca Raton on March 26-29, 2015.

Gender is directed towards the self by the self as well as by society and societal institutions. How do people exploit themselves in addition to being exploited by others?  How is our personal definition of gender effected by societies?  How are societies’ definitions of gender challenged by self-awareness?  What stereotypes does society perpetuate about gender and how do they effect individuals?  How and why does society perpetuate these ideas?  How do people from different nations, classes, races, and sexualities perceive and experience gender differently?  Similarly?  How do these differences effect their lives?  What do these similarities say about gender in society?  How does the economy factor into and exploit societal perceptions of gender?

The 2015 Student Caucus, led and organized by FAU’s Feminist Graduate Student Association (FGSA), solicits paper abstracts from both graduate and undergraduate students on all aspects of gender and embodiment particularly those with a focus on exploitation and self-awareness.
