Den Kopani has taught theatre at the university level for over twenty years, ten of which were at Florida Atlantic University. He was appointed Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance in August of 2009. He received his BA in Theatre and MA in Theatre Design from the University of Illinois in Chicago, and an MFA in Scenic Design from Florida Atlantic University. His interest in performance environments led him to the study of Theatre Architecture, which he pursued on the doctoral level at Michigan State University.

Den has worked commercially as a free lance designer since 1971, and as resident scenic designer with the Holiday Festival Theatre outside of Chicago. His design credits include work in theatre, film and television. Notable works include the scenic design of the world premieres of Samuel Beckett’s Rockaby and Eric Bentley’s Concord. He has held academic positions at the University of Kentucky and the University of Buffalo. While in Buffalo, Den was Scenic Designer for Shakespeare in Delaware Park, where he designed scenery and several stages for the outdoor theatre festival. Prior to returning to teaching in 2000, Den was the principal designer of Bluline Designs, Inc.; a firm which he owned and operated for 16 years. He is an active member of United Scenic Artists Local 829.
