SCMS Professor Receives Award, Announces Performance of Transmedia Opera

School of Communication and Multimedia Studies Associate Professor Joey Bargsten has been awarded an Individual Artists Fellowship Grant from the Florida Council of Arts and Culture, the Florida Department of State, and the Division of Cultural Affairs. The award was one of three fellowships in the Interdisciplinary Art category. The award will be used to help produce his transmedia opera MelanchoLalaland™ in a full performance in October, 2015 in Miami.

Selections from MelanchoLalaland™ will be premiered at Miami Light Box at 7pm, Tuesday, February 3 (ticket information here; discount for FAU students with discount code FAU123). The event is part of FilmGate Interactive Conference. South Florida's premiere interactive and immersive storytelling festival, Filmgate Interactive is an annual fusion event of leading international creators, thinkers, and practitioners from across the fields of film, TV, interactive, online, mobile, gaming, publishing and live events.

MelanchoLalaland™ is composed and directed by Joey Bargsten, in collaboration with librettist/producer Thea Zimmer. The project is made possible by the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Advisory Board, the Bailyn Foundation, and the Avid Corporation.
