Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What degrees do you offer?

    There are two Bachelor of Arts degrees—the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies.

  2. What are the sequences?

    The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies is a unified curriculum that includes one sequence:
    Communication Studies

    The Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies includes two distinct sequences:
    Film, Video & New Media
    Multimedia Journalism

  3. What do you mean by sequence?

    A sequence is a focused course of study that prepares students for certain kinds of careers or advanced academic training.

  4. What careers do particular sequences prepare me for?

    Communication Studies—law, politics and public relations, human relations training, and general liberal arts

    Film, Video & New Media—film and video production and criticism, animation and new media industries

    Multimedia Journalism—print, broadcast and electronic journalism

  5. Do all sequences have the same minimum requirements?

    The sequence in the BA in Communication Studies requires 36 credit hours of courses. The sequences in the BA in Multimedia studies require 38 credit hours because of the senior practicum.

  6. Does the School offer walk-in advising?

    The School offers walk-in advising every Thursday on the Boca Raton campus. During a walk-in session, we can answer registration questions, assist with forms needing signatures (e.g. drop/add), clarify deadlines and policies, and address general questions about requirements. During walk-in sessions, we cannot perform full degree audits, assist with forms requiring detailed information/research (e.g. Financial Aid Appeals), assist students with less than 30 earned credits; and walk-in appointments cannot be used as first appointments for new students or transfers. A walk-in appointment is meant to provide answers to time-sensitive or "quick" questions. You will be able to spend 10-15 minutes with an advisor, and a follow-up or full appointment may be necessary.

    Walk-in hours may be shortened due to high volume, and you will need to allow for wait time; the duration/delay will depend on the number of students seeking advising, and sessions are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Changes to the walk-in advising schedule will be posted on our main undergraduate advising page; please check the undergraduate advising page before you plan your visit.
