Dr. LaRocco received her PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2016. She is a Summa cum Laude graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, with a double major in Political Science and English and completed her master’s degree at the University of Oxford, where she was a Clarendon Scholar. Prior to entering academia she worked in foreign policy research in Washington, D.C. Her teaching and research interests in African and environmental politics focus on the political economy of conservation, postcolonial statehood, the politics of indigeneity in Africa, and the use of qualitative methodologies in political science. Her research has been published in Politics and Gender, Environment and Planning E: Nature and Space and the Journal of Southern African Studies, as well as several edited volumes. She is currently working on her book manuscript, The Nature of Politics: State-building and Conservation in Postcolonial Botswana.
