FAU Presents ‘In Dialogue: LGBTQ South Florida’

Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present “In Dialogue: LGBTQ South Florida.” The event will take place via Zoom on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. Registration is at fauf.fau.edu/cwgss. General admission tickets are $10 and students are $5, with all proceeds benefitting WGSS. 

The event will start with a viewing of the short film “Open Dialogues,” by Freddy Rodriguez. This will be followed by a discussion with Clarence Brooks, FAU associate professor of dance; Julie Seaver and Michael Riordan with Compass Community Center; and Jeff Rusna with Hollywood Arts and Culture Center.

The film “Open Dialogues” draws upon the coming-out narratives of seven Broward residents who took part in on-camera interviews for this project. The 20-minute video was produced by the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood to inspire conversation about acceptance and inclusion of the LGBTQ community in Broward County.

WGSS is an interdisciplinary program with nationally and internationally known faculty from a variety of disciplines. Students receive credit for courses in fields such as anthropology, English, criminal justice, communication, history, languages and linguistics, literature, nursing, political science, sociology, and women, and gender and sexuality studies.
