William Shakespeare’s ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents William Shakespeare’s “Two Gentlemen of Verona,” a comedy that deals with the themes of friendship and infidelity, the conflict between friendship and love, and the foolish behavior of people in love. The play runs from Friday, Feb. 14 through Sunday, Feb. 23 in the Studio One Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.

Shows are on Fridays at 7 p.m.; Saturdays at 1 and 7 p.m.; and Sundays at 1 p.m. General admission tickets are $20; students, faculty, staff, alumni and children under age 12 may purchase tickets for $12; and group prices are available. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-564-9539 or at www.fauevents.com.

The play is set in provincial Italy of around 1590 with the rich costumes of the time. The stage will be modeled after an Italianesque interpretation of the Globe Theatre with the comparable entrances to the current Globe Stage in London. The music for the production is authentic to the period with classic renaissance lute, flute and horn arrangements. The action of the play is fast-paced with many comic moments and characters that are charming and great fun. This is not a dark and heavy Elizabethan drama, but rather a romantic, playful, bawdy and wonderful Valentine surprise.
