The University Galleries and the Department of Visual Arts and Art will present the “2015 Juried Student Exhibition” from Friday, March 20 through Saturday, April 3 in the Ritter Art Gallery, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. Awards for outstanding student work will be presented during the event. Both the opening and exhibition are free and open to the public.
This juried exhibition is held annually and is open to all FAU students. Students may submit up to three works each in a variety of media including photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, sound, video and multimedia installation. From the typical 100 to 120 students participating, the exhibition presents about one-third of the submitted works. The 2015 Juried Student Exhibition will be juried by artist Vanessa Diaz and art professional Michael Jon Radziewicz.
Diaz is an interdisciplinary artist working in sculpture and site specific installation. She received her M.F.A. from the University of South Florida in 2013 and has had several fellowships for residency, including The Atlantic Center for the Arts, Florida; Camac Centre d’Art, France; the Wassaic Projects, New York; and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Virginia. Radziewicz is the owner and director of Michael Jon Gallery, Miami. He finished his M.F.A. in Studio Arts at the University of Illinois in 2011. Aware of the city’s potential, he then decided to move to Miami and open a new gallery on 41st Street in the Design District.
With the support of the University Galleries, this exhibition is produced and organized by students with the goal of providing students an opportunity to show their work in a professional environment. This exhibition is a great opportunity for students in developing valuable professional skills as working artists as well as exhibition administrators, while making art available to everyone on campus. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The University Galleries are closed Sunday and Monday.
This exhibition is made possible in part by the FAU Student Government, the University Galleries, the Department of Visual Arts and Art History and the Painter’s Forum. For more information, call 561-297-2661
