Spring Concerts

Florida Atlantic University's Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present a variety of concerts this spring. All concerts are $10 donation at the door, unless otherwise noted, and take place in the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus:

Mozart and Modern Mash-up, presented by Chamber Winds and Percussion

Sunday, March 23 at 3 p.m.
Seven different chamber ensembles will create a kaleidoscope of sound, including Renaissance dances, elegant Viennese classics, and music of every period since.

Several bands involved in FAU's commercial music band perform.

Jazz Band Wings of Swing and Jazz Combos
Sunday, March 30 at 3 p.m.
The Jazz Band Wings of Swing continues its popular offerings of jazz standards and new works for big band.

University Symphony Band
Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m.
The University Symphony Band will have something for everyone, as they feature a wide variety of exciting musical selections from the standard band repertoire.

Masterworks from Around the Globe presented by FAU's University Symphony Orchestra
Saturday, April 5 at 7 p.m.
Enjoy a splendid evening of classical, romantic, and modern masterworks from Europe and America.  Krisztina Kover, FAU instructor of music, will be the featured piano soloist for Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 12 in A Major.  Other works include "Papillon," based on themes from Jerry Goldsmith's music for the film, arranged by FAU Associate Professor Alejandro Sánchez-Samper; Allegro non troppo from Brahms Symphony No. 2; Verdi I Vespri Siciliani Overtur; and J. Strauss Jr.'s Thunder and Lightning Polka.  This is a ticketed event. Tickets are $10 at www.fauevents.com or by calling 800-564-9539.

Classical Guitar Society
Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m.
The Society presents guitar solos and chamber music by FAU students and faculty.

A World of Dreams
Wednesday, April 9 at 7 p.m.
The FAU Wind Ensemble opens this powerful concert with "Above and Beyond," a new work for winds from one of the great musical minds of our time, Gerard Schwarz. Darius Milhaud's jazz-influenced "Le Creation du Monde" then paves the way for the David Maslanka's epic and emotional "A Child's Garden of Dreams."

FAU's Chamber Singers, Women's Chorus and ¡Cantemos! present a variety of choral works in this exciting blend of master works and new music.
