FAU's Presents the Seventh Annual Repertory Dance Theatre Ensemble

FAU's Department of Theatre and Dance presents the 2015 Repertory Dance Theatre Ensemble on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 and 7 p.m. in the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Single tickets are $20; FAU faculty, staff and alumni are $16; FAU students are $12; and group prices are available. Tickets can be purchased at www.fauevents.com or 1-800-564-9539.

FAU's professional dance company is celebrating a double anniversary; the 10th anniversary of its founding artistic directors' tenure at FAU and the 10th anniversary of the dance program's rebirth. The program will include two world premieres. Internationally renowned dancer, choreographer, author and professor emeritus William "Bill" Evans has created a solo for Clarence Brooks titled "Scherz-Oh!" As the name implies, it is a musically driven, animated dance to a scherzo by Brahms.

"Skin Full of Stories," the second premiere, was inspired by Patricia Koppich's stunning photographs, tattooed student essays and the documentary "Stories on the Skin: Tattoo Culture at FAU." Brooks collaborated with several individuals in the creation of this piece including Karen Leader, Ph.D., professor of visual arts and art history, who, along with FAU benefactor Arthur Jaffe, initiated "Stories on the Skin." The four-movement dance will be performed by Chetachi Egwu, Ph.D., Chelsea Roth, Lindsey Parker, Amanda Nicholas, Aubry Jacques, Joanna Martin, Crystal Patient and Danielle Jolie Dale. All performers are either guest dancers, faculty, alumnae or current students.

Six audience favorites from past seasons also will be revived for this concert:

  • Jolie Dale joins Clarence Brooks in Kristin Bender Polizzi's wonderfully hilarious duet "Enclosed Encounters," a fantasy exploring what might happen between two self- engaged professionals when the elevator doors close.
  • Akeem Edwards and Brooks reprise Jennifer Strelkauskas' sculpturally majestic "Watch for the Morning," a male duet that is based on Psalm 130 and pits one man seeking the future against the other reminiscing for the past.
  • A performance based on the multi award-winning expose "Unchastened," a dance film which applauds Catherine Musinsky's victorious battle over breast cancer.
  • A performance choreographed to the musical underscore for Michael Foley's "Flor," which features the haunting male voices from the 'a cappella' group, Chanticleer, combined with John Corigliano's melancholic violin piece for "The Red Violin."
  • Two works by Crystal Patient, including her solo "Sophisticated" and a small ensemble piece with dancers from Broward State College.
