Director of Advising Chosen for International Honor

Laura Mooney, director of Student Academic Services in Florida Atlantic University's Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, is one of 10 internationally to be selected to serve as a mentor for the 2015-17 Class of Emerging Leaders for NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising. The purpose of the Emerging Leader program is to provide a mentoring experience to those interested in becoming more involved in the association.

This will be Mooney's second term as a mentor. She was selected because of her outstanding success with her first mentee and because of her commitment to the program and  her involvement and leadership in the association.

"In all the ways I have been part of NACADA leadership over the years, this is one of my favorite programs and I'm honored to have this opportunity to contribute," said Mooney.

The Emerging Leader program is a two-year program in which Mooney will work closely with an emerging leader in the association and help him or her gain skills, experiences and knowledge needed to move into a leadership position in the association. The two will develop a plan for the emerging leader's involvement, which will be based on his or her interests, expertise, and goals for the future. Leadership in NACADA does not only mean elected positions in the association but also can mean leadership in research, publications, presentations, and other areas in NACADA.
