Making Waves Award Reception

Florida Atlantic University recently held a reception to honor actor, director, choreographer and educator André De Shields and his work in promoting the arts. Though De Shields was delayed in New York by snow, he was named the Making Waves Award recipient during the reception.

De Shields visited FAU from Thursday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb 25 as the Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in Performing Arts. He spent time with faculty and students in FAU's School of the Arts in master classes and his visit culminated with his public performance   "FREDERICK DOUGLASS: Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory."     

Also during the reception, FAU Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Dean Heather Coltman announced the newly established Marta and Jim Batmasian Educational and Artistic Excellence Fund. Marta then announced a new initiative titled the Ambassador for the Arts Program.
