FAU’s Music Season Includes Symphony, Big Band, Piano, Jazz and Much More

Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents an expanded season of music for every taste, with 44 concerts scheduled for 2014-15. Most concerts take place in FAU’s University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.

The season opens on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. with a Piano Faculty Concert in which FAU’s internationally acclaimed faculty present their favorite works in this popular annual showcase. Performers include Heather Coltman, David Hammer, Krisztina Kover, David Rossow and Leonid Treer.  This concert is a tribute to Zilpha Friedman, a longtime supporter of FAU’s Department of Music. The cost for this concert is $15 and tickets can be purchased at  www.fauevents.com or by calling 800-564-9539.

On Sunday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. the Florida Wind Symphony, South Florida’s professional wind band, performs works from the golden age of concert bands. Tickets are $15. On Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m., the FAU Faculty and Friends Concert will include Schubert’s “Trout Quintet” and Florida premieres by Kevin Wilt, FAU composer in residence. Tickets are $15. The Wind Ensemble takes the stage on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m., as they present Bach’s “Fantasia in G major” for organ, and “Before Thy Throne I Now Appear” as well as Dan Freund’s “Jug Blues” and “Fat Pickin.’” This concert is free, with a $10 donation suggested at the door.
