Hoot/Wisdom Recordings to Release 4th Installation of CompOWLation Album Series
by FAU College of Arts and Letters | Wednesday, Mar 11, 2015
FAU's student-run and faculty-supervised record label, Hoot/Wisdom Recordings, is set to release the 4th installment of its CompOWLation album series on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. The album will feature 12 of South Florida's most talented bands, rappers and singer-songwriters that are all either current FAU students or alumni.
The purpose of this album series is to show what kind of music the best artists at FAU have to offer, while providing students of the Commercial Music Program invaluable real world experience in recording, producing and marketing music. Listeners who are interested in hearing the collection can purchase the album on www.compowlation.com immediately. CompOWLation Vol. 4 will also be featured on iTunes and Spotify by Friday, April 10.
The process of creating this album began in January of 2014 when Hoot/Wisdom announced the initiation of the recruitment phase which encompassed all FAU campuses. For 14 weeks, the 100 or so students who make up the label searched across the entire FAU student body for talented musical performers. The students advertised on social media platforms, hosted talent shows on campus and posted flyers throughout FAU campuses to attract the most talented artists. After reviewing more than 70 demo submissions, student leaders selected 12 artists to manage and record. The students then spent eight months producing, recording and mixing the 12 songs in two state-of-the-art on-campus studios.
"This is by far the best album ever released by Hoot/Wisdom Recordings," said Matt Smith, student president of Hoot/Wisdom Recordings. "CompOWLation 4 displays the honest creativity of FAU's vastly diverse student population."
All proceeds from this album will go directly toward a scholarship fund used to benefit the talented and dedicated students of FAU's Commercial Music Program and Hoot/Wisdom Recordings. CompOWLation Vol. 4 is the 23rd release in the label's 12-year history.
