FAU's Theatre Lab to Host Playwright's Forum and Master-Class with Allison Gregory

Florida Atlantic University'sTheatre Lab presents the third of its "Playwright's Forum and Master-Class Series" with Allison Gregory, nationally renowned playwright and author of Theatre Lab's upcoming production "Motherland."

Gregory will share a reading and lead a discussion of her new play "Wild Horses" on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.  She will offer a 90-minute master class titled "Developing Compelling Characters" on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m., during which participants will be encouraged to develop their own short plays.  The short plays developed will then be eligible for submission to Theatre Lab's Short Play Festival, an opportunity for budding and established playwrights to see their work produced onstage at Theatre Lab.

The two events will take place in Theatre Lab's newly renovated space in Parliament Hall, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Tickets are $20 for the playwright's forum and $30 for the master class. There are also discounts for students. Tickets can be purchased at www.fauevents.com, by calling 561-297-6124 or at the Box Office in FAU's Student Union. Theatre Lab Cafe opens one-hour prior to show. Guests can arrive early to enjoy some food and drinks while seeing the gallery space.

"Wild Horses" is a moving, savagely-funny, one-woman play about a threshold summer that forever alters an adolescent girl. Told by her grown-up self, this coming-of-age story is layered with complexity and timeless nostalgia. The play shares the pathos and hubris of her teenage years, the struggle for identity, independence and authenticity, and the desire to find one's place in a complicated world.  The staged-reading will be directed by Lou Tyrrell and stars Jeni Hacker.

These two events are part of a series where nationally known playwrights visit Theatre Lab. There will be another event in the series on Thursday, March 2 and Sunday, March 5 with Israel Horovitz.

Theatre Lab was established at FAU in 2015 with the mission to develop and produce new work in American theater, while providing a training ground for FAU students interested in careers in professional theater and the world of not-for-profit arts.
