Anthony MessinaAnthony M. Messina serves as Visiting Assistant Professor/Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at Florida Atlantic University. He oversees all aspects of the athletic band program, which includes direction of the Marching Owls, Parliament Sound Basketball Band, and conducting the Symphony Band. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas School of Music, Mr. Messina guest conducted all wind bands, assisted in the instruction of the 270-member Marching Jayhawks and taught beginning and advanced conducting.

From 2012 - 2016, Mr. Messina served as the Director of Instrumental Music at Georgetown Middle High School in Georgetown, Massachusetts where he conducted the high school concert, jazz and pep bands, middle school concert and jazz bands and taught high school music electives. During his tenure in Georgetown, the high school band regularly participated in the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association Concert Festival, receiving the highest ratings in school history. Prior to his time in Georgetown, Mr. Messina served as Associate Instructor in the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. While pursuing his master’s degree, he guest conducted all major wind bands and assisted in the instruction of the 300-member Indiana University Marching Hundred. Additionally, he co-directed the soccer, women’s basketball and All-Campus Bands, and aided with the undergraduate conducting sequence.

Mr. Messina is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting from the University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS), holds a Master of Music in Wind Conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (Bloomington, IN) and a Bachelor of Music Education from Wayne State University (Detroit, MI).
