Originally from Spain, Nuria Godón holds the Licenciatura in Hispanic Philology from the University of Santiago de Compostela and the MA and PhD in Spanish from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She specializes in 19th- through 21st-century Spanish peninsular literature, film, and culture. Her research addresses theories of masochism, gender, sexuality, cultural identities, and migration in Hispanic studies. In addition, Dr. Godón's fascination with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary fields inspired her to co-found and co-edit Transitions: Journal of Franco-Iberian Studies (2005-2020).

Dr. Godón has organized several national and international symposiums:  "The IV North American Symposium of Galician Studies" (co-organized with Dani Barreto, Carmen Pereira Muro, and Cristina Moreiras" (Lubbock, Texas 2023), "Performing Freedom in the Luso-Hispanic Atlantic World" (co-organized with Alejandra Aguilar Dornelles and Andrés Espinoza, FAU, Boca Raton, FL, 2022); "Surpassing Borders: Physical, Emotional and Cultural Movements in the Global Hispanic World" (FAU, Boca Raton, FL, 2019); "Gender and Decolonization in the Iberian World" (FAU, Boca Raton, FL, 2018);  and "Discourses of Peripheral Sexualities in Hispanic Studies" (co-organized with Michael Horswell, FAU, Boca Raton, FL, 2014). Currently, she serves as co-organizer of the V North American Symposium of Galician Studies (forthcoming in 2025).

Dr. Godón served also as guest curator of the art exhibition entitled,  Os adeuses. Fotografías de Alberto Martí [The Farewells. Photographs by Alberto Martí], sponsored by the Council of Galician Culture, the Xunta de Galicia, and the Initiative of the Americas at FAU (Schmidt Center Gallery FAU; Boca Raton, Florida -- October 24, 2019 - January 26, 2020). The exhibition included 51 photographs taken by the well-known photojournalist Alberto Martí (1922-2017) documenting the mass migration of people from Galicia (Northwest of Spain) to the Americas between 1957 and 1963. It was inaugurated in Galicia in 2010 and then traveled around Spain, Portugal, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, and other countries. Before coming to FAU, the show had its inaugural US début at New York’s Ellis Island Museum, NY in February 2019. See: http://www.fau.edu/artsandletters/llcl/events/the-farewells/
