Letter From The Dean
Dear Students,
I am pleased to share with you some of the work the College has been doing in the "Americas Initiative." This initiative started in 2018 as a way to strengthen our academic offerings and research output on issues related to race and society in the Americas.

A central part of the initiative for this year was to conduct what we called a "cluster hire" of new faculty to join our veteran scholars in this area. This fall we welcomed eleven new faculty members in many different departments whose research focus intersects with many academic majors and the theme of race studies in our hemisphere. Check out their profiles on this page: fau.edu/artsandletters/college-initiatives/americas-initiative/hire/. I am so excited to welcome such dynamic and distinguished professors to our College!
What does this mean for you as a student at FAU? Next semester and over the next couple of semesters, we will be rolling out new courses on the Black and African American experience in the Americas. The faculty are also working toward creating other curricular innovations including minors and certificates so that you can concentrate in your majors on these exciting and vital topics.
I hope we can hold a public forum soon to introduce our faculty and the new curricular innovations under way. Until then, please know my door (zoom room door for now!) is open to you for consultation and any ideas you wish to share with me about your academic experience in our College. Best wishes for the next few weeks as you work to finish this fall semester.
