FAU Joins the Any Soldier® Campaign Florida Atlantic University is taking part in the nationwide Any Soldier® campaign, which is designed to generate a stream of supplies and letters to U.S. military personnel serving in any war zone -- with particular emphasis on those who don't normally get a lot of mail from home. The project was started in 2003 by Sgt. Brian Horn of LaPlata, Maryland, who was serving in the Kirkuk region of Iraq when he got the idea of soliciting packages and letters labeled "Any Soldier" to distribute to troops in his unit, the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Since then the program has grown dramatically. To read about its current scope, visit www.anysoldier.com/ Spearheading the campaign at FAU is Trustee Lalita Janke, who is handling the shipping of all donated items. Tax deductible donations can be sent to the Weppner Center for Civic Engagement and Service, Room 207, Student Union, Boca Raton campus. Please make checks out to the Florida Atlantic University Foundation and write "Any Soldier Fund" on the memo line. From Monday, Aug. 11 through Friday, Sept. 26, FAU will be collecting letters and supplies to send to men and women in the armed forces who are serving in harm's way. Collection boxes will be set up at the following locations:
FAU Boca Raton
FAU Davie
FAU Harbor Branch
FAU Jupiter
FAU Treasure Coast This campaign is being coordinated at FAU by the Weppner Center for Civic Engagement and Service and Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement (SAVI). Please note that donations are being sought in the form of single, rather than bundled, items. In addition to letters addressed to "Any Soldier," items that are needed include:
