Transfer Admissions Requirements Transfer credit is awarded to admitted students who submit official transcripts from regionally accredited institutions.
Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.
Transferring with fewer than 60 credits: 1. Applicants should present a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (4.0=A) on all attempted college work.
2 .Applicants must be in good academic standing at their last attended institution.
3. Applicants must also meet all freshman admissions requirements as stated in the freshman admissions section. http://www.fau.edu/admissions/FreshmanReq.php
Transferring with more than 60 credits: In order to consider an applicant as an incoming junior, the student must submit a transcript from each post-secondary school attended, cumulatively indicating the completion of 60 or more transferable credits by the application entry term. If you have received credit through examinations such as, but not exclusively, the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or Advanced Placement (AP), you must provide official exam results as well.
1. Applicants should present a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on all attempted college work.
2. Applicants must be in good academic standing at their last attended institution.
3. Admission to the School of Architecture and College of Nursing is selective. All applicants must meet the specific course and grade point average requirements for direct admission to the colleges.
4. Beginning Fall 1991, all transfer applicants must have completed eight to ten credit hours of sequential foreign language or its equivalent in quarter hours prior to enrollment at Florida Atlantic University.*
Second Baccalaureate - Applicants Holding a Baccalaureate Degree
Students applying for a second baccalaureate degree must have received their first bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
Transferring with an Associate of Arts Degree from a Florida public community college:
1.Students awarded an Associate of Arts degree from any Florida public community college are admissible to Florida Atlantic University.
2.As stated above, admission to the School of Architecture and Nursing is selective. All applicants must meet the specific course and grade point average requirements for direct admission to those colleges.
* This requirement may be satisfied by presenting proof that two units of a sequential foreign language were completed in high school or by passing a CLEP, MAPS or other designated examinations of proficiency.
If the foreign language admission requirement is not met at the time of transfer, then it becomes a graduation requirement.
All undergraduate transfer and second baccalaureate students who have completed all or part of their education abroad are required to have their foreign credentials evaluated by an accredited independent evaluation service. For a list of accredited evaluations services please see the list of frequently used National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) Members. The evaluation should contain a course-by-course description and a grade point average from each institution attended. Please do not send foreign credentials to FAU. Please send them directly to the evaluation agency.
Official TOEFL results are required of all applicants whose native language is not English. Please visit the Undergraduate International Admissions link for more information regarding the TOEFL exam. Students are exempt from taking the TOEFL exam if they meet the following criteria:
- Students who have taken over 60 semester hours at a regionally-accredited post-secondary institution in the United States or another English speaking country.
- Students who have attended a high school in the US for more than three years and have not taken ESL courses to fulfill the core English requirements.
- Students who have attended a foreign secondary or post-secondary school whose primary language of instruction is English.
Returning Degree-seeking FAU student: If you are a former, degree-seeking FAU student, but not currently enrolled, your eligibility to return will depend on several factors. If you have not attended for at least three consecutive semesters, you must re-apply for admission and pay a $30 non-refundable application fee. Click here to read details on Returning Students.
