PRE-HEALTH PROFESSIONS LLC

Open to all first-year students pursuing a career in medical, dental or veterinary medicine.
# of students accepted per year = 46 (with preference given to committed and high-achieving students)

Participation in the Pre-Health Professions LLC will expose students to a variety of activities that they should be pursuing in order to be a successful medical, dental, or veterinary school applicant. This includes opportunities for students to engage in their enthusiasm for science; knowledge of what their chosen career involves; health-related volunteerism; intellectual development; and developing skills needed to be considered a well-rounded health professional. Furthermore, the purpose of the LLC is to ensure that these students will come to understand what will be required of them to be successful. 

What courses do I take in the Pre-Health Professions LLC?

FALL semester:
English Composition I (3 credits)***
Learning Strategies & Human Development (1 credit)
General Chemistry I with Lab (4 credits)
Current Issues in Biomedicine (1 credit)
Appropriate Math course (3 credits)*

SPRING semester:
English Composition II (3 credits) ***
General Chemistry II with Lab (4 credits)
Appropriate Math course (3-5 credits) *
Appropriate “core curriculum” courses (6 credits) **

*Based on students’ SAT/ACT scores and optional completion of the online test for math placement prior to July 1, 2007. Please visit www.math.fau.edu/pretest.htm to register for and take the online test. Students will be registered for the appropriate math course following the placement test.
**Based on the recommendations of the students’ academic advisor.
***Students with AP credit for ENC1101 or 1101 and 1102 are advised to take a core curriculum social science or humanities class.
