Open to all first-year students majoring in engineering or computer science.

In the Engineering and Computer Science LLC, students work together to enhance their success in the rigorous courses required for engineering and computer science majors. Additional workshops and support services are offered to the LLC students to ensure their success as engineering majors at FAU.
What courses do I take in the Engineering and Computer Science LLC?
FALL semester:
Fundamentals of Engineering (3 credits)
General Chemistry with Lab (4 credits)
English Composition (3 credits)
Appropriate level math course (3-5 credits) *
Learning Strategies & Human Development (1 credit)**
SPRING semester:
English Composition 2 (3 credits)
Appropriate math course (3-5 credits) *
Appropriate “core” courses (6 credits) ***
*Students must complete the online test for math placement prior to July 1, 2008. Please visit http://www.fau.edu/mathplacement/ for information on and to take the online test. Students will be registered for the appropriate math course following the placement test.
**This is an optional class ONLY – a special section of SLS 1503 will be reserved for engineering and computer science Learning Community students that elect to enroll.

What are the benefits of joining the Engineering LLC?
• Establish Friendships! Live with other students who are committed to the rigorous curriculum required of engineering or computer science majors—have people to study with right “on your doorstep” or even in your own room!
• Get Support! Have tutoring and support available to help you succeed in any of your classes—right in the residence hall
• Be Involved! Be invited to attend special programs/activities designed just for engineering or computer science students
• Make a Difference! Start early at establishing connections through participation at AMSE sponsored events (find a mentor, pursue leadership opportunities)
• Get Connected! Have mentors to work with from the College of Engineering and Computer Science and local engineers working in the field
• Learn from Others! Make connections with students that were successful as freshman in engineering or computer science majors – get advice, support, and encouragement from these returning LLC students!
