Service-learning is a learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instructional objectives.  This involves getting students engaged in structured service activities within the context of the course material.  It necessarily includes self-reflection on the part of the student and is intended to change both the student and the community they work with.

This presentation will discuss how service learning was used in an undergraduate Operations Management course in the College of Business, describe the specific projects pursued, and review the lessons learned from this initiative.

BIO:

Ravi S. Behara, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the IT & Operations Management Department in the Barry Kaye College of Business.  His current research interests include Operational Risk (patient safety and information security) and Advanced Analytics in Knowledge Services (knowledge networks, biotechnology clusters).  He has published in a variety of academic journals and research books.  He was the recipient of the Florida Atlantic University Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching for the College of Business.
